Questions and Answers

Question words and verbs are used when asking questions, and the answers can be positive or negative.

Question words: what, where, when, who, which, why, how?

 

Verbs used in questions

Do you like ... ? / Did you like ...?

Are you ... ? / Were you ...?

Can you ... ? / Could you ...?

Do you have ...?

Have you played... ?

What have you done?

 

Positive answers                   Negative answers

Some or any

Any is used in questions and negative answers.

Some is used in positive answers, in narrative sentences and in questions when you think the answer is yes.

Do you have any ...?              No, I don’t have any ...   Yes, I have some ...

Would you like some tea?       Yes, please!
